In the second quarter of 2025, the top maps and navigation applications on Android in South Africa showed varied performance trends, as revealed by Sensor Tower data.

Bolt: Request a Ride saw weekly downloads fluctuating between 34K and 71K, with a notable peak at the start of April. The app maintained a strong presence with weekly active users consistently above 2.5M, though there was a slight decline towards the end of the quarter.

inDrive. Rides with fair fares experienced a gradual increase in weekly downloads, from 35K in early April to nearly 30K by the end of June. Active users started at 385K, reaching a low of 280K mid-quarter, before recovering to around 330K.

Uber - Request a ride downloads started at 32K, dipping mid-quarter, and then rising to over 28K by the end of June. Active users mirrored this trend, peaking at 1.6M and ending the quarter slightly lower.

Phone Tracker & GPS Location showed a steady increase in weekly downloads from 11K to nearly 24K. The app's revenue also saw a consistent rise, starting at negligible amounts and reaching $94 by the end of June. Active users increased significantly, from 29K to almost 94K.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic maintained stable weekly download numbers, around 16K to 18K. Active users displayed slight fluctuations, starting at 610K and ending at just over 600K.
